This piece was part of a
volunteer clean up at an elementary school in a poor neighborhood in Providence,
RI. Students involved in the cleanup found materials that were built
into the birdhouse, tying the sculpture to the site and investing the kids
in both the site and the sculpture. The process also served to intervene in
the way that the kids think about how we use the categories of waste and not-waste
to separate objects, materials
and people.
